Add Woody Harrelson to the list

Of stupid entertainers without clue, that is.

Here is a revoltinglittle opinion piece by Harrelson in the Guardian.

Go take a look at it, and you can read statements by Harrelson like:

And now my government is creating its second war in less than a year. No; war requires two combatants, so I should say "its second bombing campaign".

Apparently Woody doesn't consider what happened at the WTC an act of war, and perceives that we just went in and bombed Afghanistan for no good reason.

This is a racist and imperialist war. The warmongers who stole the White House (you call them "hawks", but I would never disparage such a fine bird) have hijacked a nation's grief and turned it into a perpetual war on any non-white country they choose to describe as terrorist.

Again, I guess the fact that these "non-white" countries are actually engaged in terrorism against us doesn't enter into the equation at all. Typical attempt to turn this into a racist argument, rather than deal with the actual facts of the case.

In a country that lauds its freedom of speech, a word of dissent can cost you your job.

Here, Woody is referring to Bill Maher. And perhaps there is a ring of truth to it, or perhaps Disney just saw it as a chance to pull the plug on a slumping show. But again, nowhere does the term "freedom of speech" suggest that you also enjoy "freedom from consequences" from private citizens or companies. From the government or public spaces, yes. From private concerns, no way. Nowhere does the constitution guarantee that you won't lose your job (or get punched in the nose) if you say something hateful or stupid or inflammatory that your boss disagrees with. This is just another example of the far left whining because their views aren't popular with the mainstream.

And, just in case you doubt how far to the left ol' Woody is, I offer his answer to what he would do in Bush's shoes:

Easy: I'd honour Kyoto. Join the world court. I'd stop subsidising earth rapers like Monsanto, Dupont and Exxon. I'd shut down the nuclear power plants. So I already have $200bn saved from corporate welfare. I'd save another $100bn by stopping the war on non-corporate drugs. And I'd cut the defence budget in half so they'd have to get by on a measly $200bn a year. I've already saved half a trillion bucks by saying no to polluters and warmongers.

Then I'd give $300bn back to the taxpayers. I'd take the rest and pay the people teaching our children what they deserve. I'd put $100bn into alternative fuels and renewable energy. I'd revive the Chemurgy movement, which made the farmer the root of the economy, and make paper and fuel from wheat straw, rice straw and hemp. Not only would I attend, I'd sponsor the next Earth Summit. And, of course, I'd give myself a fat raise.

I really try to keep my language PG rated on this site. But when I watch another "American" bash the US from the safety another country, all I can feel is contempt. You hate the US so much, Harrelson? Well, all I can say is "fuck you, asshole". That and, "please don't bother to come back". And here I thought the stupidity of his character on "Cheers" was just an act.

I wonder why they never stay overseas. Why is it that they return to inflict more crappy movies on us? Could it be ....$$$$$$ American?

Posted by: Jack Tanner on October 18, 2002 07:34 AM

Because they think that we, their adoring American Public, will worship them no matter what they say. And then whine about being "censored" when they find out that we don't share their extreme left views.

That, and all those American $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

When are these Hollywood "entertainers" going to realize that being the commander of millions does not make them "Commander-In-Chief"!! That job actually takes someone with an actual brain!

I first heard the term "rectal cranial infarction", some years ago, Woody would seem to be a textbook example. Still... it's good to know that the Mental Retardation Society has made such inroads in Hollywood, maybe someday Woody will complete his journey to full imancipation and take his place beside Ed Asner and Martin Sheen. You go Woody, the mentaly challanged need heros too.

I'm not so sure, he may have a point. I totally agree that september 11 was an act of War, but isnt there a more peaceful way to go about it? I think its kinda selfish of us to support Bush to bomb away these arabs when what some of us may be really looking for is revenge for the loss of our loved ones.

Posted by: Kris on December 28, 2002 12:34 AM

What makes this asshole or for that matter any of the Hollywood idiots think that if we offer Iraq a rose that it won't be shot out of our hand? WE WERE ATTACKED! For God's sake, can't they see that 9/11 was just the beginning! Israel tried to offer a rose and that was over 40 years ago! They are still being attacked with car bombs and homicide bombers. I know without question that these Hollywood traitors are against war partially because they are afraid of losing foriegn royalties on their pathetic movies. It is common knowlege that the middle east holds the biggest foriegn market for American films! Harrelson's father, a federal judge, who was assassinated in San Antonio many years ago must be rolling over in his grave knowing that his son is a subversive, traitor and should be prosecuted!

Posted by: Total Hit on February 24, 2003 08:54 AM

I can't believe I wrote that harrelson's daddy was a judge! I am so pissed off at these people! Harrelson's father was a hit man that assasinated Federal Judge John Woods in San Antonio. Hollywood.... They even make the sane nutty!

Posted by: Total Hit on February 24, 2003 08:58 AM

Fuck em all. Every last one of those spineless goddamn cowards! All they do is piss and moan (when they are not busy giving each other awards or pats on the back for being so damn beautiful and talented). If every one of em disappeared from the earth tomorrow would any body other than their agents really give a flying fuck? I seriously doubt it.

If this had been Clinton, the "Tin Man" Al Gore or any of the other liberals, there wouldn't be any protests, so here's my solution. NUKE HOLLYWOOD. Throw all the "know nothings" into one area and drop a nuke on them. I hate wasted a good bomb, but I figured, what the hell. These people have been dropping bombs on us for years. Anyone remember "Yentl", The Prince Of Tides.

I believe that everyone has a right to thier own opinion! And we all know about opinions-Opinions are like assholes, everyone has or KNOWS one!

WOODY HARRELSON IS A COMPLETE ASS. HEY WOODY, IF YOU READ THIS, DO ME A FAVOR AND GET A CLUE. I REALLY CANT BELEIVE WHAT A FUCKING JERK OFF YOU ARE. ITS REALLY FASCINATING. HOPEFULLY SOMEDAY EVERYONE WILL REALIZE WHAT A MORON YOU ARE. JUST LIKE YOUR OLD MAN WHOS HOPEFULLY ROTTING IN HELL RIGHT NOW.

Posted by: MIKE on April 11, 2003 03:06 PM

it's funny how alot of these naz..i mean conservatives focus on the rights that apply to them, but when someone excercises a right that isnt convient to the crusade they get blacklisted and slammed..

then the people that post the hate on the net have no balls to do it in public. i marched against war, what have you done other than warm the room with your hot air?

Posted by: Ken on April 22, 2003 01:49 PM

I find it interesting how celebrities are entitled to THEIR opinions, but when the rest of us "nobodies" have an opinion that is contrary to theirs that is McCarthyism and blacklisting. Hmmmmmm .... seems it works both ways to speak out.

Dear neo-conservative redneck yanks, keep wishing for your white middle class brave new world, but while ever there are free thinkers like Woody, you will never get it. And no, John Howard doesn't speak for all Aussies

Posted by: Randy on April 26, 2003 06:32 AM

Free thinkers? Bwahahahahahaha.

"Easy: I'd honour Kyoto."

And lose 400 billion, and 5 million jobs.

"Join the world court."

And violate the U.S. constitution.

"I'd stop subsidising earth rapers like Monsanto, Dupont and Exxon."

Did Woody Harrelson swim to the UK to make these statements? Or did he in fact purchase a plane ticket, thus financing oil companies?

"I'd shut down the nuclear power plants."

And replace the lost energy with what exactly? Hamsters on treadmills?

"So I already have $200bn saved from corporate welfare."

200 billion which is a drop in the ocean of economic catastrophe he's already created by 'honouring' Kyoto and shutting down power plants.

"I'd save another $100bn by stopping the war on non-corporate drugs."

Okay, one good point there.

"And I'd cut the defence budget in half so they'd have to get by on a measly $200bn a year."

Uh-huh. Tell us, Woody, is there a point in having a military at all? If there is, does it not make sense for it to be STRONG?

"I've already saved half a trillion bucks by saying no to polluters and warmongers."

Again, a drop in the ocean.

"Then I'd give $300bn back to the taxpayers."

How about just lowering taxes? You know, like Bush is doing?

"I'd take the rest and pay the people teaching our children what they deserve."

They hardly deserve MORE money, when 25% of fourth-graders can't fucking read.

"I'd put $100bn into alternative fuels and renewable energy."

Err, why not exchange it to 1 dollar bills, and use them as fuel? Name an alternative fuel source that can fill the energy demand?

"I'd revive the Chemurgy movement, which made the farmer the root of the economy, and make paper and fuel from wheat straw, rice straw and hemp."

Uh-huh. And where are you going to grow the needed wheat straw, rice straw, and hemp? You'd need a planet the size of Jupiter to grow enough to satisfy energy demands.

"Not only would I attend, I'd sponsor the next Earth Summit."

Why? So everyone can rant and rave about the alternative fuel sources that need nonexistent huge planets to work?

"And, of course, I'd give myself a fat raise."

Hardly a popular decision, what with the mass starvation, disease, and war going on. But then again, with the dollar being about equal in value to the currency in Burkina Faso, it does make sense in a way.

If Woody Harrelson is a 'thinker', then Don Rumsfeld is a hippie.

haha. you turd-walloppers need to relax. you get so worked up about someone expressing their opinions. Just stay calm. In another 50 years or so almost all of you will be dead and all your ranting and raving will be forgotten, and all the things you're getting so upset about now will be forgotten. Chew on that.

Posted by: jimbo jones on April 27, 2003 11:45 PM

Ah, jimbo, at the rate things are going, I might be dead next year or tomorrow. Not that it bothers me. I still think woody's opinion stinks.

HAIL HAIL THE REPUBLICAN 'taliban' OF THE USA. GOD IS GREAT & EVERYONE WHO THINKS OTHERWISE WILL BE CRUCIFIED.

I'm pro-usa, pro-war, anti-bush! The USA is ok, the USA rules! Only a pity that you have these total-non democratic god fearing 'taliban' republicans, who just won't take another ones point of view.

Posted by: Alex on May 1, 2003 06:21 AM

Alex,

Are you 12 years old, an idiot, or just someone who lives in the in the Netherlands?

As far as taking another point of view - the Democrats are some of the most effective character assassins and demonizers to ever play the game. For example, calling someone in US politics the Taleban is just about as hateful as it can get - yet the Democrats were doing this within WEEKS of 9/11.

You hate our President - because.....? Tell me who has been squashed because of their point of view, who jailed, who crucified? You are just spouting leftist nonsense with absolutely NO perspective of the situation in the US. Using hateful and inflammatory terms like crucifixion and Taleban to describe the current US administration is absurd and idiotic.

Posted by: Neal on May 1, 2003 08:19 AM

Neal - Alex has probably watched too much American TV and movies. God knows (figure of speech, I'm an atheist. just a note to anyone thinking I'm protecting my religious brethren here) Hollywood does a wonderful job of demonizing the American right.

Before Bush was elected president and I actually saw Republicans (and Democrats) in action, my image of them was that of a bunch of religious fundamentalist yahoos. And while there surely are some Republicans who fit that description, it's about as fair a portrayal of them as Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel is of people who live south of the Mason-Dixon line.

Hollywood is one of the worlds biggest polluters. Every movie that comes from Hollywood uses fossil fuels and chemicals that adds to the worlds pollution problem. If the Hollywood elite really gave a rats ass about the environment they would stop making movies and find a job that is less polluting. This will never happen! They work in an industry that generates a lot of money (as well as pollution) and they love being adored by the masses. So why do they not give some of their millions back to the very people that made them so rich? Its called giving back to the community. All liberals talk about it. How many actually do it? None! NONE of them really care about the condition of the environment or the masses. They are all a bunch of hypocrites and nothing that comes out of their mouths should be believed.

This commentary on how bad Woody sucks is sickening. I just met Woody two weeks ago at our local sustainable living fair. He is one of the few "rich guys" that actually has his priorities straight. He is a real down-to-earth guy, and he is out there making a difference in the world. Every comment that I read on this page was full of IGNORANCE. Educate yourselves!! Speaking of which....If we paid teachers MORE we would have BETTER teachers, and then fourth graders could read. There are plenty of great teachers out there that just arent't gonna waste their time with 20K a year!
Woody is supporting all the right things if you ask me. The middle east isn't full of a bunch of monkeys swinging on vines. Their anger is probably justified, you all just probably know nothing of America's REAL foriegn policy. Our government has been sticking its !$?!?! up the ?!#@#@ 's of a lot of countries for decades. That in no way justifies violence in retaliation, but I'd like to see what you would do if your "big brother" bent you over for decades.
There also needs to be a lot less denominational preaching out there. Now that we all have different names for the same GOD, how do we share religion, without turning it into a crusade? Jesus would never have wanted us to use him and his name as a GOD. He was a devine man, get over it. GOD IS SO MUCH BIGGER THAN ONE MAN. Think of how large the universe is!! God is within every little atom in our universe. It is a shameful irony that religion will be man's downfall.
If Bio-diesel, legal hemp manufacturing, hydrogen energy, solar energy, wind power, etc. don't mean a thing to you, then you are an ignorant redneck who thinks that the world is just gonna keep on turning despite worldwide environmental atrocities.
THe people running the show don't have a roadmap for this trip they are taking us on, and we are way off course. It's time we looked around at where we have come to, and realize where it is gonna take us.
I am a personal friend with a man that is starting a biodiesel refinery, and he just might be one of the next big oil tycoons of america. Petroleum is gonna be gone dude. When gas stations are charging $3 a gallon, and my buddy can offer biodiesel at $1.50 a gallon, what do you think folks are gonna choose? Where does this stuff come from?
BOIDIESEL?...FARMERS....HEMP?...FARMERS...WIND POWER?...FARMERS...SOLAR POWER?...FARMERS. Does woody harrelson really sound that crazy?? I think not. Educate yourselves and the prophets words won't sound so ridiculus.
