Robert Redford is the latest actor to serve as moral compass for the good people of the USA. However, unlike Babs, Belafonte, and Lange, he actually has some suggestions that make sense, rather than just screaming about how horrible the US is. And, even though he "blasts" the Bush administration, I think he does have some valid points - we do need to become less dependent on fossil fuels, we do need to explore alternative energy sources, and we should use existing technology, wherever feasible, to abrogate our dependence on foreign energy supplies.
Maybe a few more of the "elite" will take a page from Redford's book - if you want to criticize something, it certainly helps if you supply a few alternatives to the thing you are criticizing.
I haven't had time to read anyone else's take on this, so I wonder if I'll be in the majority or minority.
Posted by Neal Mauldin at December 02, 2002 02:18 PMNotice how old, tired and just plain OVER the "stars" are who feel it necessary to criticize President Bush and our War on Islamist terror?
Thanks for sharing, Bob. So sad your eyes are going...
Better stick with a re-release of Butch Cassidy or your very last good film, The Natural, and stay out of "thinking" and "politics".
Nothing prevents anyone from installing panels on his roof - but if they are serious, let them also cut loose of the utility and go dark when the sun doesn't shine.
To make the utility maintain their connection and generating capacity without revenue from you is not repeat not reducing the need for fossile fuel power plants, it just denys them revenue for upkeep.
The problem for me lies with ole' Bob Redford and his travels to and fro Sundance in his private Lear jet and his road transportation. Usually an Escalante. It seems to me they may be made of glass.
Posted by: SondraK on December 3, 2002 11:07 AMMy problem is that it's basicaly a case of trying to tie his favorite hobby horse to a larger issue. Saving the enviroment is good, sure, but no one, and I mean no one, who has seriously looked into wind/solar power believes that they are viable on a big scale. The technology just isn't anywhere good enough yet. Accusing someone of lacking leadership because they don't push your own personel pet cause seems a bit self absorbed, and petty.
