So, I'm watching some of the DC protests (seems pretty sparsely attended to me), and I'm wondering why there are no overhead shots of the actual crowd?
If you stand in a small group of people and take a photo through them, you can make it look like a huge gathering. But if you get even a few feet above the ground and shoot down on the crowd, you get a much better idea of the actual number of people you are dealing with. MMMMMMm, maybe we aren't supposed to know the actual number of people we are dealing with, eh?
And now a word from the protests sponsors:
But as I mentioned above, this and most of the other shots I have seen of the protests are taken from ground level. If there were hundreds of thousands of people marching, why not pull back and give us a wide angle view of the huge mass of protesting humans? Unless there aren't any huge masses to be seen, that is.
UPDATE
Then there's this WaPo article that mentions ANSWER half a dozen times without once addressing the group's politics.
UPDATE UPDATE
At least the anti-war protests are appreciated by some people in power!

Posted by: Sylvain on January 18, 2003 06:30 PMName names, give addresses, otherwise all you've just said is, nuh uh. The total number of leftwing losers who take part in these protests couldn't populate a major city, how do I know, why I've seen it all over the net.
Posted by: puggs on January 18, 2003 11:39 PMI have seen a distance shot from the elevation of the speaking stage. It was quite dense out to about 75ft from the stage. And I'm talking about the numbers of people not just the their thought patterns. And then it got more sparse as you moved out to about 150ft.
Estimates I've heard are around 30,000 people. But they must have been counting the people walking around without signs and the Fulan Gong folks that I've read are there every weekend. I'm sure we'll hear the World Workers Party folks (oops, I mean A.N.S.W.E.R.) will be saying that it was just too cold for many people to turn out. Which only means that the guys looking for a piece weren't there. Just goes to show the power of conviction of the pro-dictator types.
According to Right-Thinking the SF ralley was estimated to be 45,000 by city officials. But those people will use any excuse to hold a march. Except Veteran's Day, of course.
Posted by: the analog kid on January 19, 2003 05:39 AMThe protest measured about three city blocks. I was there. It was sick and funny at the same time. And boy did those sensitive consciences leave a mess.
