Here's a story about a young woman from the US, Rachel Corrie, who was run over by a bulldozer while she tried to protect a building in the Gaza strip.
If she died for her convictions, then you have to at least give her credit for that. Standing in front of a bulldozer, however, is not such a good idea, especially if it is a large one where the operator has a very poor line of site below the top of the blade. Two laborers were run over by a bulldozer at a construction site I worked on the summer before starting college. The driver of the bulldozer, who was the cousin of 1 of the men killed, said he never saw them. And you certainly can't hear a human voice over the noise one of these huge units makes.
UPDATE
A really shitty way to die, but there aren't many good ones. She who dances with bulldozers should have been quicker on her feet, or just stayed home. Like the protester who was crushed by a munitions train back in the 80's, she shouldn't have thought that these things can see or stop well. That idiot laid down on the tracks in front of a moving train, then in panic realized that the train wasn't going to stop. Too late. It's a miracle he didn't die, but he did lose part of his brain. The train did try to stop, putting on the breaks when he laid down, and it did stop, a half a mile down the tracks.
Rocket science this isn't, to bad they can't seem to come up with intelligent protesters who can connect the dots. But then if they could, they'd be productive citizens instead wouldn't they?
Posted by: puggs on March 16, 2003 06:40 PMAt least Puggs she stood up for what she believed in, rather than just sitting at home wittering on the internet.
Posted by: harmonia on March 17, 2003 03:58 AMWell then Harmonia, I'm glad that fate and her finally hooked up.
There are very few things that I like to see more than someone who believes in the practice of targeting of civilians, especially children, get their mortal coil shuffled off.
This pinhead was local to my area, and if I can find the time and place, I would be remiss if I didn't attend her funeral services and leave a Tonka toy on her casket. (Suggestion taken from Misha's comment board on this subject).
She gets no respect, remorse or refund for her dumb as dirt actions. She openly supports (or I guess, supported would be the proper term) the killing of children in their beds by paramilitary types too chickenshit to take on other armed adults face to face.
And to follow up on my earlier comment. If I cannot make the funeral, I will find her grave and take pictures of contruction toys surrounding her headstone(to be e-mailed to anyone who wants them. Neal?). Think that's sick or in bad taste? Well that is what I think of the people who travel to other countries to support people who cheered and handed out candy on Sept. 11th.
Does that piss you off, Har? Then you may be feeling about 5% of my ire that this useful idiot could see the "palestinians" as peace loving and support their terror.
Posted by: analog kid on March 17, 2003 06:00 AMHarm It's all well and good to believe in something enough to risk your life for it, quite another to throw your life away in a stupid gesture. Did she really have to stand in front of the blade?
Posted by: puggs on March 17, 2003 08:03 AM"she stood up for what she believed in"
Not for long she didn't! Hoo-HAH! OK, it's not nice to speak ill of the dead, but damn SAM! Harm, it's just evolution in action. Besides, had she read her Douglas Adams she'd have known better:
"Mr Dent," he said.
"Hello? Yes?" said Arthur.
"Some factual information for you. Have you any idea how much damage that bulldozer would suffer if I just let it roll straight over you?"
"How much?" said Arthur.
"None at all," said Mr. Prosser. . .

Posted by: Loyal Citizen Victor on March 17, 2003 08:44 AMAnalog, she was not planting a bomb she was trying to stop someones home being bulldozed.
Posted by: harmonia on March 17, 2003 10:43 AMActually Har, there are conflicting reports coming out right now. I've heard the house getting knocked down one, the clearing of a mine field one and the newest one being the collapsing of border crossing tunnels.
Either way, she got what her organization wanted. A martyr. She went off to a counrty that wishes harm upon me and my fellow citizens, gave them aid and comfort and joined them in wishing my country harm. At the minimum she was an idiot, at the maximun she was an anti-semite who put the lives of people who raise their children to kill civilians above those civilians.
And remember, all you have to do to not get your house knocked down is to not be or hang out with terrorists. Easy enough, huh? It's not like these people don't know what happens if you piss off Israel. They've been doing it for a while now.
I know where she went to school and learned all this anti-israel BS. Hell, 10 years ago I was hanging out and partying with them. This school offers Associate Arts degrees in "Hackey-Sack" and "Frisbee". They offer no grades, only "student evaluations". Needless to say you cannot transfer you earned credits from here to any other school. It is a true "loser's paradise".
