Remember how concerned everyone was

That the US would attack Iraq during Ramadan? I guess the world, and certainly Arafat's terrorists, don't hold the same level of concern for the Jewish celebration of Yom Kippur.

First, of course, there was the Yom Kippur War - where Egypt and Syria chose to attack on Yom Kippur purely because they perceived Israel would be pre-occupied with their holiest day, their "Day of Atonement".

And now, we have this suicide bombing at a jointly owned Arab/Jewish business right before the start of Yom Kippur. The female "martyr" who did this is human waste (now both figuratively and literally). But of course, she was driven to it because the Jews had the audacity to kill her terrorist brother - no matter what, it's always Israel's fault.

It's time we unshackle Israel and let her defend her citizens. Because this kind of shit is just pure evil incarnate. If Israel is going to be demonized no matter what she does, and if Arafat is just going to stand by and let his terrorists claim more and more innocent lives, then I say let Israel do whatever is necessary to defend her people.

UPDATE:

Tom Paine over at Silent Running has some thoughts in a similar vein. His comment about having difficulty adequately atoning for the sin of anger seems particlularly germane to the point of this post.

Starship troopers

I found an enteresting back and forth at Cato The Youngest's Started by a Quizilla test, it covers the substance of Heinlein's book vs. the movie. I thought the movie was shot though with plot holes and mistakes. I loved the book, and didn't recognize any of it in the film. So tell me, did anyone like the movie? What did you make of the book?

A good reason why other nations should be glad our technology is advancing so quickly.

We've seen or heard about the films Sudden Impact and Armegedon. Pure fiction, but what is the real potential for such an event? I don't know, having no background in such things. I know that our chances are not even as good as they were in those movies, and they weren't great in them, if such a thing were about to happen.

Maybe the militarization of space is inevitable, and maybe,.... vital. Those of you who have a background in the sciences can give a better understanding of the technical problems involved in diverting a massive hunk of rock traveling at enormous speeds, but I believe it's something we should plan for. Something we may consider developing tools to guard against. We know earth has been savaged before, and will be again, wouldn't it be smart to get ready?

Just in case?

Speaking of Voices in my Head

Shhhhhhhhh. Be very, very quiet. See if you can hear the whisper of a new voice here at RNS.

For several months I have been trying to get Puggs to come out of the comments closet, and start posting some of his excellent content on the main page. Puggs was a little intimidated by the computer side of things (God knows I haven't found anything else that seems to intimidate him), and reluctant to jump right into the blogosphere.

However, after he responded to a request I made for surplus Claymores by commenting that he knew how to make a nasty little anti-personnel mine out of a shotgun shell, I knew he had to move into the limelight. Hell, I get tons of e-mail from people who already think Puggs is an author (or even THE author, since he actually responds to more comments than I do) So, unbeknownst to Puggs, I set him up an RNS authoring account, e-mailed him all of the specifics, and wait in breathless anticipation to see when/if he will take the bait.

If I can have both Puggs and AK at my back, I'm thinking we can take on just about all challenges. I would use a lot of military references here, like "covering my flanks" and "suppressing fire", but you guys know I was never in the military and that I would just be saying stuff I had heard from the movies.

So let me just say this: AK is somewhere over there to the right. Puggs is probably somewhere over there to the left, but he may have already worked his way around behind you. Welcome to RNS.

Hmmmmmm. I thought internet access was strictly controlled in Saudi Arabia. I guess RNS must still be on the "OK to read" list in Dubai. Or else our troll is someone that has access that the "average" UAE citizen doesn't.

So let's see, someone using an anonymous hotmail account, posting from an IP within Saudi Arabia, talking about Arabs making Nukes and threatening the US. Whatever can it all mean? I thought the House of Saud was our friend.........

CORRECTION:

A reader corrects my confusion by pointing out that the UAE and Saudi Arabia are not the same. For some reason I was trying to stick Dubai in Saudi Arabia. But, in the end, it's just a blown call by little ol' Nukevet. It did seem strange that a sight would be available in Saudi Arabia, however, as they have one of the most restrictive IP banning policies around.

No Caption Necessary

UPDATE:

Ahhhh, I see. The picture of Palestinians hiding behind their children and the Israelis protecting theirs is just propaganda. Well, that certainly wxplains things like this:

Or there's this photo of a 2001 suicide bombing attack against a nightclub in Tel Aviv:

From the article:

"I saw people lying on the floor. Some had no legs, no arms," Alex Brodsky, 19, said after the blast, the seventh bomb attack against Israelis since Prime Minister Ariel Sharon announced a unilateral ceasefire almost three weeks ago.

Ambulance workers treated victims amid severed limbs and pools of blood, which covered the pavement. Around 90 people were wounded, some critically, from the blast, which occurred outside the Pacha nightclub, a popular haunt for Russian immigrants.

So, let's see. Seven attacks in 3 weeks since Israel UNILATERALLY issued a cease fire. Yep, the Pa lestinians sure do want peace, all right. They want peace right after Israel is completely obliterated from the face of the Earth.

Welcome!

Hey, faithful readers, admirers, bashers, and lurkers of RNS -

I'm happy to announce that I now have a wingman. The Analog Kid has graciously accepted an offer to be a "co-poster" to RNS. I think this is a great boon for RNS, and for me, personally. So, you'll notice post with a new "AnalogKid" by-line. Stop by and say howdy!

Merely to get my entry counter off of "666".

I watched Jason X last night. Michelle was right.

Yes, I put an extra "l" in Michele. I was in a hurry. It was the drugs. The pain of watching Jason X still hadn't worn off. Whatever the reason, it is an error I shall not make again.......

Wow, how surprising

Hezbollah rejects the "Roadmap to Peace". It's never been about Peace. It's only about exterminating Israel.

I rule out that the road map is an acceptable solution for the Palestinian people, said Hussein Al-Khalil, Hezbollahs political officer. He added hes not optimistic about Powells visit to the region. The U.S. State Department Americas foreign policy works on behalf of Israel. Its not a State Department for the American people.

Yep, the American State Department - just a shill for the Jews.

DC area protests

So, I'm watching some of the DC protests (seems pretty sparsely attended to me), and I'm wondering why there are no overhead shots of the actual crowd?

If you stand in a small group of people and take a photo through them, you can make it look like a huge gathering. But if you get even a few feet above the ground and shoot down on the crowd, you get a much better idea of the actual number of people you are dealing with. MMMMMMm, maybe we aren't supposed to know the actual number of people we are dealing with, eh?

And now a word from the protests sponsors:

But as I mentioned above, this and most of the other shots I have seen of the protests are taken from ground level. If there were hundreds of thousands of people marching, why not pull back and give us a wide angle view of the huge mass of protesting humans? Unless there aren't any huge masses to be seen, that is.

UPDATE

Then there's this WaPo article that mentions ANSWER half a dozen times without once addressing the group's politics.

UPDATE UPDATE

At least the anti-war protests are appreciated by some people in power!

Oh thank god

Just when I had begun to lose all hope for Canada, I came across Shiny Happy Gulag. Unfortunately, his weapon of revolution has to be a 34 inch aluminum bat, since the Canadian Government has confiscated all of the handguns, and forced registration of the rest. We may have to begin a Berlin airdrop style operation to keep the guy in operation!

Link, of course, via Emperor Misha, who is the proud blogfather of the Gulag

Oh, gee, this is a surprise

Apparently the missiles being smuggled into Yemen had a different final destination (did you guess Iraq?).

I've always wondered, if the Yemeni missiles were intended for "self defence" and legally obtained, why did they have to be smuggled into the country on board a North Korean freighter?

Wait a minute, North Korea and Iraq doing something evil? Surely it can't be so. I mean, President Bush was just being a hokey redneck cowboy when he made his axis of evil speech, there couldn't possibly be truth to the charges, right?

And how about this little report, alleging that North Korea is going to kick out all UN nuclear inspectors.

Some of these people with a "condone anything as long as it is anti-American" mentality are in for a real shock when an attack happens on US soil that makes 9/11 look like a minor traffic accident.

Well, looky here

One of the members of Bush's "Axis of Evil" has threatened to "destroy the world" if they don't get their way.

Surely all of those people who made fun of Bush and his AoE remarks will have some scathing remarks to send towards the North Korean President, right? And everyone bashing the US for "unilateralism" will certainly condemn the DPRK in the strongest terms possible, I'm sure.

Unfortunately, I suspect it will be more a case of the apologists saying "See, Bush insulted them by including them in the axis of evil. They really have no choice but to threaten to blow up the world. It's all that damn America's fault".

In the end, nobody's evil but us. At least according to the Saddam apologists. Maybe this wouldn't have happened if we had built a few more schools and roads in Korea, eh?

One of the reasons I left NYC

Was because of stories like this.

And don't give me the "hopeless act of desperation" crap either. Maybe that makes you mug and rob a couple of innocent people. But it doesn't make you kidnap, gang-rape, sodomize, and beat a helpless woman for 2 hours. These guys are subhuman animals, period.

Too bad the police dog didn't have a little more time to work these scumbags over. Or, too bad it wasn't attempted in a city/state that allows concealed weapons. If a gang of homeless men tried that down here, they would definitely be hoping the police found them before the woman's family and friends did.

And also don't give me any shit about how I can't possibly understand these guy's motivations/anger/despair if I've never been homeless myself. See, I went to school, actually tried to get good grades, went to college and learned a profession; all so I could take care of myself and my family. Was I priveleged? Sure, I had a stable family environment, a father that also believed in providing for his family, and who had similarly gone to college to secure his future. But so what - I know a lot of priveleged people who feel like the world owes them a free ride, and don't apply themselves one little bit.

It makes me crazy that people (you know who you are) will try and blame society for the actions of these creeps. Remember how some in Australia wondered what they had done to encourage a Lebanese gang to go around raping Aussie women? Or hey, maybe it was the woman's fault - was she pretty, dressed provocatively, or just too terrified to escape? They are bottom feeders, drain resources from other parts of society, and I bet you at least 3 of the 5 are in the country illegally.

bye-bye, Trent

It is shameful to watch all of the hard-won gains by the Republican party be put at risk by a moron, but that is exactly what Trent Lott has done. It is time for this guy to go away. Quietly.

Notice the mention of "internet bloggers' in the story. I wasn't one of them (this is the first time I have even mentioned Lott at RNS), but it is interesting that the early wave of scorn and outrage present in the blogosphere was noted and commented on by "legitimate" media.
