This Woman Needs a Bodyguard
Nimat Hafez Barazangi, a Muslim woman and a research fellow in Cornell's Feminist, Gender and Sexuality Studies Program has written a book titled "Woman's Identity and the Qur'an: A New Reading" in which she asserts that the Koran has been misinterpreted for centuries.
New book says the Qur'an gives women the same rights as menThe Qur'an -- Islam's sacred book -- offers Muslim women the same rights as men but traditionally has been misinterpreted, denying them those rights. That argument is convincingly made in a new book by a Muslim woman who is a scholar in Islamic foundations of education and identity development at Cornell.
With this news, I am now going to have to fear for her life. How long before some religious leader puts a fatwa on her and she ends up like Theo Van Gogh?
I hope she realizes this as well.
